Emergency Management Services

Holyoke Emergency Medical Services (HEMS) provides comprehensive 9-1-1 emergency medical care to a significant portion of eastern Phillips County, including the towns of Holyoke, Paoli, and Amherst. Our team consists of highly trained emergency medical technicians (EMT), paramedics, registered nurses (RN), and first responders, both full-time and part-time. We have access to the latest medical equipment and procedures, ensuring that we can offer the best possible care to our patients.

  • HEMS is an extension of the Emergency Department (ED) at Melissa Memorial Hospital. Therefore, the care we provide to our patients is the same initial care they would receive in the emergency room. To access our prehospital care, residents and visitors must call 911.
  • When calling 911, please provide specific information to the dispatcher regarding the nature of the emergency, who is involved, and the location. If possible, ensure that your address is clearly labeled to help us quickly identify the location of the emergency.
  • When we arrive on the scene, our team will ask several questions to assess the situation and understand the nature of the emergency. While time is of the essence, our experienced providers will simultaneously initiate definitive, lifesaving care to the best of their abilities.
  • We have several recent projects and activities, including the upcoming addition of Critical Care Paramedics, who will be able to provide additional care through an extended scope of practice. Additionally, we organize the Annual Holyoke EMS Golf Tournament, which raises funds for community projects. Keep an eye out for more exciting events in the future!
