Dr. James C. Schiefen
General Surgery - MMH Surgeon
Dr. James Schiefen, DO is a general surgery specialist at Melissa Memorial Hospital who is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Perkins County Health Services-Grant and Poudre Valley Hospital. He received his medical degree in 1982 from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences and has been in practice for more than 35 years and specializes in general surgery.
Dr. James Yakel
Podiatry - MMH Surgeon
James Yakel, D.P.M. completed his undergraduate education at Kearney State College. He then attended the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine, where graduated in 1994. He completed his residency in podiatric surgery at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland Ohio. He has practiced for 18 years with 16 years of that in Colorado. Dr. Yakel is board certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. Dr. Yakel has published in professional medical journals, lectured on podiatric sports medicine topics, and is a regular contributor to STACK magazine. While he enjoys all phases of podiatric medicine, his passion is sports medicine. He currently serves as the team podiatrist for the Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer.
Dr. Michael Hajek

Dr. Michael Hajek, MD is board certified in Orthopedic Surgery. He has special expertise in 5 areas: Hip Osteoarthritis, Hip Surgery (Hip Replacement Arthroplasty), Knee Osteoarthritis, Knee Surgery (Knee Replacement Arthroplasty), and Osteoarthritis (Hand and Wrist). Dr. Hajek graduated from Northwestern University, Chicago.
Dr. James Wolach
A graduate of the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Dr. Wolach completed his internship at the University of California, San Francisco and his urology residency at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
He is board certified and participates in a number of professional organizations. With a special interest in laparoscopic surgery, Dr. Wolach treats both male and female urologic conditions including stone disease, prostate conditions, and urologic cancers.
Dr. Sidney J. Adler

Dr. Adler received his medical schooling at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City and completed his internship and residency at Johns Hopkins Hospital Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Baltimore, Md.
Dr. Michael Shedd
Dr. Shedd graduated from the University of Rochester School of Medicine, N.Y., and completed his internship and residency at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He then completed his fellowship in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Mo. Board certified in internal medicine, pulmonary disease, and critical care medicine, Dr. Shedd has a special interest in sleep medicine.
Dr. John Drury
A graduate of Saint Louis University School of Medicine, Dr. John Drury completed his residency and internship at University Of California, Davis Medical Center.Dr. Drury specializes in the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
Dr. Terry Cummings
Dr. Cummings is a native of Louisville, Kentucky and has been practicing Audiology in Northeast Colorado for the past 37 years. He received his Doctor of Audiology degree from the University of Florida and is a graduate of the University of Denver and Eastern Kentucky University. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Audiology, the Academy of Dispensing Audiologists, and a charter member and Fellow of the Colorado Academy of Audiology where he serves on the executive board.
Dr. Hilary Wisdom
Dr. Hilary Wisdom is a native of Fort Collins, Colorado and has recently settled in Sterling with her husband, Kyle Wisdom. She received her Doctor of Audiology degree from Gallaudet University and is a graduate of the University of Colorado-Boulder. She completed her residency training at UNC Greensboro. She completed her thesis in Noise Exposure in Carnival Ride Operators, which was inspired by her husband. She is an avid traveler and loves alpine and cross-country skiing, running, biking, hiking, and tennis with her family.

Dr. Bryant, an optometrist from North Dakota, comes to us with over 45 years experience. At Holyoke Family Optical patients can purchase glasses frames and other optical products Monday-Friday, Bryant hopes to offer the latest technology there is in eye care. “One-stop shopping” is the goal, with general, medical and trauma-related eye care all available.

Dr. Smith graduated with Highest Distinction from Northwestern University with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. He earned his medical degree at Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1989 and received awards for research in optics and corneal physiology.Dr. Smith’s comprehensive ophthalmology and refractive practice treat a wide range of eye disease including cataracts, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. His practice emphasizes custom cataract surgery and laser vision correction to achieve optimal sight at all distances for his patients.

Dr. Dennis Jelden/Cindy Lock, RN
Dr. Jelden received his medical degree from the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine and has been in practice for more than 20 years. Cindy is a registered nurse with 35 years of experience. Our wound clinic specializes in treating complicated wounds that require a specialized assessment and plan of care. Our wound care team will examine and measure your wound, evaluate blood flow to the area, factor in comorbidities and create a customized treatment plan to begin the healing process in your wound. Scheduling is available Monday through Friday if needed but many patients require treatments only 2 or 3 times weekly. Dr. James Twede
Dr. Twede received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Utah and his Doctor of Medicine from the Uniformed Services University. He completed his residency training at the prestigious Walter Reed Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. After residency, he served in the US Army as a dermatologist at the Evans Army Community Hospital in Fort Carson, Colorado. Dr. Twede is board-certified by the American Board of Dermatology and comes to us from Asarch Dermatology & Aesthetics and specializes in Mohs surgery and the medical and surgical treatment of skin cancer. He also has extensive experience with various aesthetic procedures and has an expertise in laser revision of acne scars, postsurgical scars, and vascular anomalies.
Julie Levy, RD
Julie Levy, M.Ed., RD, LMNT, BC-ADM has been a Registered Dietitian and Licensed Medical Nutrition Therapist since 2013. She obtained her bachelors of Science degree in Dietetics from the University of Northern Colorado and has her Masters of Education in Exercise Physiology from Wichita State University. Julie is also a Board Certified – Advanced Diabetes Management educator through the American Association of Diabetes Educators.
Melissa Memorial Hospital has individual instruction for Diabetes Self-Management Education to guide patients through seven self-care behaviors from our Registered Dietitian/Diabetes Educator who has been living with diabetes since childhood and from American Association of Diabetes Educators (AADE) as eating healthier with consistent carbohydrate consumption, being physically active, monitoring blood glucose measurements, taking medication (oral or insulin/injections) as prescribed, solving problems in unusual situations, reducing the risk of complications, and coping with stress and emotional issues. Insurance coverage benefits are available to clients who are being seen by a healthcare provider for the treatment of a specific medical condition.
